LADYKAT PROGRAM LAST 20 YEARS!
"I'm gonna just be honest with you, if one of your girls comes to play for us, she MIGHT have to take a little step back
in class,"
was a comment that was made to us by a college coach from a MAC school while trying to recruit some of our girls in 2003. They had just met us at the
high school where they went through our impressive weight-room, and walked by the trophy cases and North Central Conference Championships photos that lined the
halls. They were then escorted to the historic Memorial Gym, where the LadyKats play their home games, and toured the venerable old building, got a look at the
WILDKAT bus that the team travels on, a further tour of the players "film room", the coaches office, and both the JV and Varsity locker rooms. Clearly this college coach
felt that this program was special, but even they didn't know how special it is.
I was going to include a number of HOW MANY LADYKATS HAVE GONE ON TO PLAY IN COLLEGE, but to be honest with you, the number is too high over the last
20 years to recall. There have been girls who were the final player on our bench that have gone on to be college starters. There have been girls on our team that
averaged between 4-6 points per game that are getting full-ride scholarship offers, because colleges know that when a girl comes out of Kokomo High School's girls
basketball program...that they have been through a college level program and are ready to play.
Kokomo players are in the weight room, (some even have a weights & conditioning class at school) LadyKats often watch lots of video of their performance, and are
actually ahead of the game as our girls now have access to the whole library of games to watch online. Our coaching staff has been together for a very long time and
the successes of the program (as shown above) are obvious. Kokomo will play a very demanding schedule which is something college coaches love, and it doesn't
hurt anything that the current Indiana All-Star game director, is a former Ladykat coach who still resides in Kokomo and sometimes visits our practices and games.
When a player plays for Kokomo High School, she is put through a college level program. The success speaks for itself. There is a very talented group of
youngsters that will be entering high school over these next few years and it is just a matter of time before Kokomo resumes its spot as one of the ELITE programs in
the midwest.
